Activity: Architecture
Location: In the winter we meet at the Life Long
Learning Centre at St Bartholomew's School, Newbury, which has excellent IT
facilities and dedicated parking.
Timings: Fourth Tuesday of the month at 2:30
Description: Our group, running for over
five years, has a healthy membership of around 40 members.
We
have speakers who talk on a variety of aspects of architecture, at some
meetings our members give short presentations on a particular aspect of
architecture — perhaps a building or architectural style they have studied
or have an interest in, and we look at the social impact of architecture
throughout history.
In the summer our group visits villages and towns of architectural interest
and also particular places, especially those that are just a little
different —and our members are very clever in finding places and houses of
interest both architecturally and historically.
The photograph, taken by Jo Dunning, shows a group of us on our visit to
Ardington House in June 2007. We had a private tour of the house by one of
its trustee/owners, Mr Baring, the banker. The day was delightful, we
actually had some sunshine, the whole village of Ardington is of
architectural social interest and Mr Baring an amusing and informative host. |
