Activity: Savings and Investment

Location: Broadway House

Timings: Third Monday nearly every month at 2pm

Description: The U3A Savings and Investment Group meets on the third Monday nearly every month to discuss and share experiences of the sort of topics that appear in the Money sections of weekend newspapers.

We meet at 2 o’clock in Broadway House, the same building as the U3A office.

In recent sessions we have discussed investment topics such as:
• Where to go for the best interest rates when saving with Building Societies, Banks and National Savings
• Tracker Funds
• OEICs, Unit Trusts, and Investment Trusts
• Strategies.for choosing which shares to buy
• Venture Capital Trusts
• Understanding capital gains
• Investing overseas

We have previously talked about other topics such as:
• Equity Release
• Scams
• Identity Theft

If we think a particular investment opportunity is a good bet we give it a thumbs up: we don’t do that very often.

But if we think the opportunity is a bit suspect we won’t hesitate to say that we don’t like it.

Often we just don’t know and we will just have to sit on the fence.

So if you want to find your way through the money jungle why not give our group a go. We are small and friendly with our members coming from a variety of backgrounds all trying to learn our way through the money jungle. Some of our number are seasoned investors whereas others ore just coming to terms with investments. The more experienced are kean to share their knowledge. Before coming for the first time just phone the office to check whether the group is running.

U3A HEALTH WARNING: The Savings and Investment Group cannot guarantee to make you rich and some investments can go down in value as well as up: but we will try to keep you interested and amused.
